Women in Business: How to Overcome Discouragement

By: Rachel Reva

Do you ever feel discouraged in business?

You aren’t alone. It happens.

And business has seasons too. There are seasons for everything: bliss, prosperity, joy, valleys, and weariness. We all experience them.

I have had major highs in business. The client wins, the media coverage, the next group launches, the pay days, the growth, the excitement… it’s like being on the top end of the roller coaster where you just feel like nothing can beat that milestone moment.

But I have also had some lows in business.

Even when you ‘hit’ your milestone of success, I can guarantee you there will be another milestone that you’ll face – the ones we don’t post on social media.

The financial challenges, the life disruptions, the family stuff, the hormones, the client who quits, the tech issues, the unexpected bills, the things that you tried to plan for but could never anticipate.

We have all been there.

So, what should you do when you get discouraged?

Start here: Get back to the vision.

Yes, THE vision. The one that God gave you. The one that reflects the real desire inside of you, that ‘thing’ you can’t get away from, even when it seems utterly impossible.

The vision is what will keep you moving, even when joy feels out of reach. The vision will keep you steady when the outside isn’t reflecting what you can see so clearly inside your head. The vision will keep you focused on the next step.

It’s not your job to focus on the how. How it will come to pass – that is God’s job.

Your job is to focus on the next step, no matter how small, or big. The rest is to just choose joy along the way.

The truth is, if you just allow your feelings to dictate your actions each day, you’ll stay stuck, frustrated and discouraged.

Maybe it’s as simple as reaching out to a potential client or pitching yourself to a podcast. Or maybe it’s as big as finally investing in that program you have been putting off.

Take 5 minutes today – and get back to the VISION that God gave you in the first place. It’s a brilliant place to start.
