Day Session: Tuesday 24th October, 9.30-3.45

This is a not-to-be-missed day, clear your calendar now to make this happen. Dr. Leaf will be presenting four sessions between 9.30am and 3.45pm, based around her groundbreaking work into the mind-brain connection, and how YOU can switch on your brain, improve your life and your health, and take steps towards living the best version of your life that you can!

This event includes morning tea and lunch…make sure you let us know if you’ve got special diet needs too, we want to make this the best experience we can for you.

What Dr. Leaf will be teaching:

The Perfect You and Quantum Physics – Session One – 10 am – 24-10-2014
In this we will discuss the power of the human mind, choice, free will, and the impact of toxic thinking on the Perfect You. The default ingredients of our humanity are joy, peace, patience, kindness, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, compassion, calmness, inspiration, excitement, hope, anticipation, satisfaction, and so on (Gal. 5:22–23). When we are in our “love zone,” as I like to call it, we operate in our Perfect You and move into positive stress, which is good for us as it makes us alert and focused; toxic stress has the opposite reaction, since the mind changes the brain and thus impacts the body. We can choose how we react, and whether we step into our out of our Perfect You. We will also discuss the philosophy and the science behind the Perfect You. Topics include materialism, interactive-dualism, idealism, the seven metacognitive models and Quantum Physics. This session will help you better understand the Perfect You, since it will explain the origins and development of my approach to human identity, that is the way we unique think, choose and feel.
Quantum physics has as its basic ingredients free will, directed attention as the result of a choice, and the effects and consequences of these choices. For example, Proverbs 4:20–27 says that if we direct our attention to the Word of God, we will align our thinking and subsequent choices with God, and the outcome will be healing and health.
Spirit, Soul and Body Integration – Session Two and Three
The Bible presents the view of the spirit, soul and the body as separate, but intimately integrated entities (Genesis 2:7, Matthew 26:41, 1 Thessalonians 5:23, Hebrews 4:12). Each of us is a spirit, having a soul (mind) and living in a body. Life is actually a spiritual force. The mind has the power of intellect, emotions and free will [3], and, if enabled by the spirit and, empowered by the Holy Spirit, can make good choices that can positively change the body, which includes the brain. The materialist view, however, in denying the existence of the spirit and soul, has held to the pre-eminence of the body. This mindset contributed to the view that the brain could not really be changed once we reached adolescence and that all we could hope for in many psychiatric and neurological conditions was compensation and reliance on medication rather than a total cure.
In these two sessions, we will also talk about:
Mental Health
Through her work, which continues to this day, Dr. Leaf noticed that mental ill-health is not just a biological imbalance that could be “cured” by medication; it is a disorder of the mind that can be caused by a traumatic thought life. In other words, mental ill-health is a thought disorder based in the mind, which changes the brain physiologically.
Stress, like real food, is not inherently bad—it depends on how we react to it. Stage 1 of stress is only short term and makes us alert and ready for action. It is an appropriate response to certain situations.
On the other hand, if we react incorrectly to stress due to a “spirit of fear” (2 Tim. 1:7), our stress reaction is prolonged and becomes toxic. According to one study, increased stress can potentially increase the risk of mortality by 43 percent—but only for the individuals who believed that stress was harmful for their health.
Think and Eat Yourself Smart  – Session Four
This is a long-term, sustainable challenge to a big problem: what to eat in our world today. It is an attempt to reintroduce a culture of thinking and effort back into eating, one based on diligently stewarding the bodies, and world, that God has entrusted to us. In the spirit of renewing the mind, it is a lifestyle book that seeks to reimagine what we eat within an integrated spirit, mind and body framework (Romans 12:2, 1 Thessalonians 5:23).
The session is divided into three parts that will help you begin approaching these issues with a renewed mindset. Part 1, ADMIT IT! deals with the dysfunctional state of our current food system, and how far it has become removed from the concept of real food. Part 2, QUIT IT! focuses on the power of the mind, and the impact of toxic thinking and toxic food choices on the brain and body. Part 3, BEAT IT! deals with lifestyle changes that can help you begin the task of thinking and eating yourself smart.

Night Session: Wednesday 25th October, 7.30-9pm

In this evening seminar, Dr. Leaf discusses how from the moment of conception, the differences in men and women show themselves in every system of the body and the brain. She shows how men and women have been created to complement one another, and how the differences in our neurobiology influence the essence of our genders. You won’t want to miss this. Book now!

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Who is Dr. Caroline Leaf?

A: Dr. Caroline Leaf is a cognitive neuroscientist with a PhD in Communication Pathology and a BSc in Logopedics and Audiology, specializing in metacognitive and cognitive neuropsychology. Since the early 1980’s she has studied and researched the Mind-Brain connection and did some of the initial research back in the late 80s showing the neuroplasticity of the brain. During her years in clinical practice and her work with thousands of underprivileged teachers and students in South Africa and the USA as a communication pathologist and cognitive neuroscientist, she developed an original theory of the science of thought, as well tools and processes based on this research. This real-world neuroscience research Dr Leaf did back then, and which is becoming popular now as a research tool, helps people develop and change their thinking and subsequent behaviour. Her science of thought techniques have transformed the lives of patients with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), learning disabilities (ADD, ADHD), autism, the dementias, emotional traumas and mental health issues and has shown thousands of students of all ages, and adults and corporations how to use their minds to detox and develop their brains.

Q: Whoa, wait…hold up a minute…these are some big words. Is this some kind of science talk?

A: No, not at all! Dr. Leaf IS a scientist, but her main focus is in taking these big concepts and explaining them in practical terms in ways that helps real people, people like you and I, to transform our thinking, and how our bodies, our health, our whole beings, are affected by the thoughts we choose to think. It’s powerful stuff, and has the power to make a big difference in people’s lives. Dr. Leaf’s books have been best-sellers at Koorong for a number of years.

Q: So she’s a Christian?

A: Yes. Dr. Leaf attends Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. A  statement of faith is posted on their site Gatewaypeople.com. Dr. Leaf quotes many Scriptures in her books which provide the link between science and the Scriptures. Science is simply a tangible way of proving the truth of God’s Word.

Q: Ultra106.5fm is a radio station. How come you’re holding seminars?

A: Good question. These events are actually a significant fundraiser for the station, and the profits we hope to make will help us do more than just survive from appeal to appeal, but really thrive, and increase our capacity to fulfil our mandate as a station, which is build strong families, strong communities, and help more and more people know the power and love of God in their lives. Running a radio station is expensive (ask our finance people!), and fundraisers like this not only benefit the people who attend, but the station as a whole.

Q: I have more questions. Who can I ask?
A: You can email Megan, our communications manager, at megans@ultra106five.com. Or if it’s really urgent, call her at the station on 6234 5900.
Don’t wait, book your ticket today!
