Mac Point Mary Massina

Mac Point has reached the next stage in its development life, with the hunt for science, cultural and tourism operators now underway.

The Macquarie Point Development Corporation is releasing the first stage of its competitive process to identify parties interested in being a part of the Mac Point vision.

Mac Point CEO Mary Massina joins dave to look at the site and future plans.

The first stage of the process will be run through a pre-Registration of Interest, which invites science, cultural and tourism operators to detail their proposal for inclusion in either The District or Antarctic and Science Precinct.

“This is an exciting stage of the work occurring at the site and follows the announcement of the developer for The Escarpment, which will be the first of seven developments to occur at Mac Point.”

“Since the inception of the vision for Mac Point, tourism and cultural components that encourage public use and interaction have been key. This is why we are going out to market today for science, cultural and tourism operators,” Mac Point CEO Mary Massina said.

Supported by PricewaterhouseCoopers Australia, the Corporation will undertake a national campaign to identify public facing operators for arts, cultural, tourism, scientific, or other proponents, which encourage public interaction and support vibrancy at Mac Point.

Proposals put forward will be required to be a key point of interest for users to Mac Point, align with the overall vision for the site, and contribute to driving visitation at Mac Point.

“We know there is already significant interest in tourism and cultural opportunities at Mac Point. What we are launching today will allow for a competitive process to be undertaken, allowing for the best of the best operators to be identified and invited to be a part of Mac Point,” Mary said.

The proposals will complement both The District project, which includes three development parcels, and the Antarctic and Science Precinct.

“Identifying experiential opportunities for visitors to Mac Point is a key component of the Hobart City Deal to encourage further public engagement with Australia’s Antarctic and Southern Ocean science.”

“Securing a tourism or cultural operator that espouses Australia’s Antarctic ambitions will provide a new destination for locals and visitors to our state looking to learn about the amazing work our world-leading scientists undertake.”

“Likewise, Mac Point will be the home of the truth and reconciliation art park, and Aboriginal culture will be an important element of the site’s development. I would encourage any Aboriginal or Torres Strait islander creative and cultural practitioners to submit an ROI.”

“Visitors to these attractions will be able to further benefit from other public uses at Mac Point, including the truth and reconciliation art park and other public open spaces, of which represents 50 per cent of the Mac Point footprint
