A group of Salvos and community supporters are preparing to cycle their way around Tasmania to raise money for the annual Red Shield Appeal.
‘Red Shield Ride’ begins with a Gran Fondo event in Hobart on Saturday May 20th, followed by a similar event in Launceston on May 21st. The group will then make its way through various parts of the state, finishing back in Hobart on Wednesday May 24th and riding into Elizabeth Mall around 1:15pm for the official launch of The Salvation Army’s Red Shield Neighbourhood Appeal.
Captain Johnmark Snead, ride organiser, has planned for a challenging but rewarding event, and there is still opportunity for people to register to ride, or sponsor a rider.
“It’s not going to be easy, but we enjoy the challenge. It’s great to be out with this group of people wanting to support the work of The Salvation Army and getting their friends and family to sponsor us on the journey around Tasmania,” he said.
The event stages are as follows:
May 20 Gran Fondo George Town to Scottsdale 100.5 Kl Start time 10 am
May 21 Gran Fondo Launceston 102.6 km Start time 10.30 am
May 22 Stage 3 Launceston to Burnie 139.9 km Start time 9 am
May 23 Stage 4 Launceston to Hobart via Poatina 239.5 km Start time 7 am
May 24 Stage 5 Huonville to Hobart via Cygnet 78.3 km Start time 8 am
Money raised by people sponsoring riders or donating money to the ride goes towards the social programmes and community work done by the Salvos all across Tasmania.
