Hawk NelsonJason Dunn is probably not a name known to many Aussies. But he and his head-lining pop-punk band Hawk Nelson have been making their name known widely across Canada and the US since 2003.

Their album Crazy Love was released this week (February 8), and the title single has been receiving rave reviews on the airwaves for at least three months such as this from the albumproject.net,  “With Crazy Love the band has found their way”. CCM Magazine responded with a 4 star review saying, “This convicted foursome extends loads of grace to anxious adolescents thanks to their hyper-kinetic, spiritually sensitive performances.”

With Crazy Love, Dunn (piano, vocals), Daniel Biro (bass, vocals), Jonathan Steingard (guitar) and Justin Benner (drums) continue the call for action heard on the band’s last studio album Live Life Loud.

During 2010 Dunn was inspired by Francis Chan’s book Crazy Love, and subsequently wrote with producer Ian Eskelin, the title track and debut radio single to stir their audience to greater things. Jason says, “we wanted to encourage people to do something out of the ordinary and unexpected, to show love to someone else.”

Jason has recently begun doing a few crazy things himself, such as making public his struggle with juvenile diabetes, and visiting hospitals across the US to encourage youth. Paradoxically he says, “It’s uncomfortable but I’ve stepped into my comfort zone and talk to kids about living a healthy lifestyle.”
