Walk for Water Report

Well, Walk for Water went off on March 17! The 4km circuit of Risdon Brook Dam was suddenly surrounded by more than 120 walkers of all ages. What a turn out!

The aim was to raise funds for the Turn on the Tap campaign, run by Samaritan’s Purse. The facts about water are devastating as you can read here on a page put together by Turn on the Tap. Water supplies throughout the developing world are in such a poor state that help is needed from people in other more affluent nations – estimates are that 884 million people do not have adequate access to safe water, and one child dies of water borne disease every 20 seconds.

The funds raised for Walk for Water were enough to purchase more than 90 biosand water filters for families in Kwale County near Mombasa in Kenya. Amazing!
Thank you to the people of Hobart for providing such overwhelming support for so many.

Let’s Walk for Water again in 2013!
